Celebrate The Olympics With A Chariots Of Fire Party

Now the football is over for a few weeks and Wimbledon has finished, some may feel a gap in their sporting lives. But the Olympics in Paris get underway later this month – and that calls for a celebration.

Indeed, if you were looking for ideas for a summer party, why not fancy dress focused on the Olympics of 100 years ago, when, once again, Paris was the host? Not only is this a great excuse to get out all the usual 1920s Gatsby-style suits and flapper outfits, but perhaps dress up as one of the athletes in the Games that year.

Nobody ever set out to immortalise the 1920 Antwerp Games or the 1928 edition in Amsterdam, but the film Chariots of Fire means the feats and lives of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams remain famous today.

A photo booth with some props can add an extra touch to this party with great backdrops for lots of superb pictures.

Imagine one of the famous beach scene at St Andrews in the opening credits. Or you could have a backdrop of Paris itself with the Eiffel Tower, or a running track and the Olympic rings.

As well as reliving the roaring 20s and one of its most famous sporting events, this could be a great way to kick-start a fortnight of interest following the Olympics and Great Britain looks to pile up another huge medal haul in all the sports we can beat the Spanish at.

Of course, a party like this could add a bit of comedy. Who could forget the London 2012 opening ceremony, when the performance of Chariots of Fire ended up focusing on Mr Bean?
