Get Ready For The Return Of ‘80s Wedding Dresses

Wedding dresses don’t get bigger than the ‘80s, and now they are making a big return, so make sure you capture it with your photo booth hire in Birmingham.

Wedding dresses don’t get bigger and more bulbous than they did during the ‘80s, with the likes of Princess Diana escalating the trend for puff-ball sleeves, Cathedral length veils, and taffeta gowns.

But just when you thought those dresses would remain a thing of the past, they are set to make a big return this year.

Those old enough to remember Charlene – aka Kylie Minogue – walk down the aisle in Neighbours will know ‘80s gowns need chiffon, lace and organza silk, a high-neckline, a princess-style gown, and a double-tier veil.

Just when you think there’s too much going on, this is when you’ve nailed it. And according to Etsy, more and more brides are opting for ‘80s-inspired weddings these days.

Searches for cathedral-length veils between August and October 2022 went up by 65 per cent, while detachable sleeve wedding dresses saw an increase of 54 per cent.

This isn’t all, as searches for embroidered veils have soared by 47 per cent, interest in wedding gloves has grown by 21 per cent, and people looking for high-neckline wedding gowns – just like Charlene’s – has risen by 14 per cent.

Etsy’s trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson told Metro: “A departure from the more muted and neutral tones we’ve seen over the last few years, couples are welcoming maximalism back into their weddings with all-out ‘80s glam making a major comeback in 2023.”

Weddings from the ‘80s aren’t just about dress styles though, as multi-tiered cakes propped up with columns, big flower arrangements, and brightly coloured streamers were also essential.

Make sure you capture your unique décor and outfits, from overflowing gypsophila bouquets to bride and groom cake toppers, by hiring a photo booth in Birmingham.
