Are People Paying More For Insta-Perfect Weddings?

Weddings are about two people promising to spend the rest of their lives together, through thick and thin. However, some brides and grooms are losing track of what’s important about their wedding day, shelling out lots of money to have an Insta-perfect do.

According to the National Wedding Survey 2019 from Hitched, the average cost of a wedding in the UK has risen from £20,799 in 2014 to £31,974 in 2019, with social media site Instagram thought to be the reason behind this steep 54 per cent increase in price.

The findings showed 42 per cent of engaged couples said they were ‘under pressure’ to have nuptials that would look good on Instagram or Pinterest. So much so, they spent nearly a third (30 per cent) over their budget to achieve this.

Editor of Hitched Sarah Allard said: “With Instagram becoming an increasing part of our day to day lives, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing our wedding planning couples – many of them millennials who have grown up with social media – looking to the platform to help inspire their day.”

She added that people are keen to spend more on engagement parties, hen and stag dos, and extended wedding celebrations than ever before.

It is clear to see many brides and grooms use the picture-sharing sites as a source of inspiration for their Big Day, with the hashtag #wedding boasting as many as 159,583, 394 posts on Instagram, while #weddingdress has an impressive 28,704,315 tags.

Of course, if you want to get some fab photos from your wedding day that would look great on your Instagram account consider a wedding photo booth hire.

Not only will you be able to capture some fun pictures of you and your new spouse, but also some hilarious shots of your guests looking like they are having the time of their lives.
