Brits Shell Out An Average Of £30k For Their Wedding

Brides and grooms have to pay more and more each year to tie the knot, with the average cost of a wedding now coming in at over £30,000.

It is not just loved-up couples who are dipping into savings accounts for their Big Day, of course, as parents typically help out their children with this important life event. Indeed, recent findings from Royal London showed that key life goals take as long as 25 years to pay off these days.

Weddings are partly to blame for this, with the average price of nuptials coming in at a cool £30,111.

Personal finance specialist at Royal London Becky O’Connor tried to give some advice to brides and grooms, telling them: “Wherever you can cut bit costs significantly, such as on a wedding or on baby equipment, then do it.”

She added: “A bit of frugality could go a long way with some of them.”

One way to save money on your Big Day could be to hire a photobooth for your Warwickshire wedding instead of a traditional photographer. Not only will you get great photos of your friends and family, but your guests will find this incredibly entertaining as well, so you don’t have to worry so much about what to do to keep them busy!

Of course, for some couples, cost is not a problem, such as newlyweds Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. The celebrity couple, who tied the knot in a three-day, across-the-globe, lavish event in December, reportedly spent over $800,000 (£611,000) on their nuptials. This includes first class plane tickets to India for guests; custom-designed Ralph Lauren outfits for one of their ceremonies; and a whopping $300,000 engagement ring!
